Ametrine is a naturally occurring variety of quartz that contains both amethyst and citrine within the same crystal.
You can often see areas of purple and yellow or golden colour meeting within a single piece.
Because it combines these two colours, ametrine has become associated metaphysically with balance, particularly the balance between intuition and action, spirituality and everyday life, and thinking and doing.
It is a popular crystal for people who feel mentally scattered, stuck between choices, creatively blocked or ready to turn an idea into action.
Metaphysical Properties
Ametrine is often described as combining the calming, intuitive qualities traditionally associated with amethyst with the confidence, motivation and personal-power associations of citrine.
People commonly work with ametrine for:
mental clarity and concentration
calming mental overwhelm
motivation and productivity
decision-making
creativity and inspiration
confidence and personal power
emotional balance
breaking through feelings of being stuck
manifestation and intention setting
strengthening intuition
spiritual awareness
energetic clearing
bringing ideas into action
balancing spiritual and practical life
For people who struggle with distractibility or maintaining focus, including some people with ADHD or learning difficulties, ametrine may be used as a personal focus or grounding ritual tool. It is not considered a treatment for ADHD or learning disorders.
Emotional Energy
Ametrine is especially associated with finding balance when your mind and emotions seem to be pulling you in different directions.
Think of it as a stone for those moments when part of you knows what you want, but another part can't seem to move forward.
Metaphysically, ametrine is used to help clear mental clutter, bring emotions and thoughts back into balance and encourage confident movement forward.
Spiritual Uses
Ametrine is commonly used when someone wants spiritual insight without becoming disconnected from everyday life.
Its amethyst side is associated with intuition and higher awareness, while its citrine colouring is associated with personal power, creativity and action.
This makes it popular for meditation, manifestation, intuitive development and turning spiritual insight into practical change.
Chakras
Primary Chakras: Solar Plexus & Third Eye
Also Associated With: Crown Chakra
The Solar Plexus Chakra represents confidence, personal power and action.
The Third Eye Chakra represents intuition, perception and inner knowing.
The Crown Chakra is associated with spiritual awareness and higher consciousness.
Together, these associations are why ametrine is often considered a bridge between intuition and action.
How to Use Ametrine
Keep ametrine at your desk or workspace when you're studying, planning or working on something that requires concentration.
Hold it while setting intentions or making an important decision.
Use it during meditation when you're looking for clarity around your next step.
Carry a small piece when you feel scattered, indecisive or creatively blocked.
Place it in a workspace, studio or business environment where creativity and forward movement are important.
Ametrine in the Home
Ametrine works particularly well in spaces associated with thinking, creating and planning.
Consider placing it in:
Home offices | Creative studios | Meditation spaces | Healing rooms | Reading areas
A larger ametrine specimen can also make a beautiful focal piece because of the natural transition between its purple and golden colouring.

Where Ametrine Is Found
The world's most famous commercial source of natural ametrine is the Anahí Mine in Bolivia.
For this reason, ametrine is sometimes sold under the name Bolivianite.
Natural ametrine is considerably less common than ordinary amethyst or citrine.
Care
Ametrine has a Mohs hardness of approximately 7, making it reasonably durable for everyday handling and jewellery.
Clean it gently using lukewarm water, mild soap if necessary and a soft cloth or brush.
Avoid prolonged exposure to strong sunlight or excessive heat, as the colour of quartz varieties can fade or change under certain conditions.
Energetic Cleansing
Common metaphysical cleansing methods include:
Moonlight | Sound | Smoke | Selenite | Intention
A Note About Crystal Healing: Crystal properties are based on historical traditions, spiritual practices and contemporary metaphysical beliefs. They are not scientifically established medical treatments. Ametrine can be used as a personal, spiritual or mindfulness tool, but it should not replace appropriate medical or mental-health care.
